We ALL did it!

With the love and support of Wade's friends and co-workers, his memorial reached over $100,000 in just about 2 and a half years. With that having been reached, it is now the Dr. Wade Shipman Endowment Fund and it will live on in perpetuity! What a gift! This could not have been accomplished without the hard word of his Memorial Committee. This committee consists not only of Cara and I, but of friends and co-workers who loved Wade and wanted his legacy to continue. They have worked diligently and hard to be sure this will happen. This endowment did not happen because family donated large amounts of money. It happened because friends, co-workers and people who LOVED and respected Wade worked hard to raise money. They did it with fundraisers and benefits. It happened because friends bought baked goods, donated to raffles, bought candy grams, came to Shippy's brown bag fundraiser, donated money to his fund, and always supported whatever fundraiser we came up with! Thank you, thank you, thank you! We love you!

To celebrate....we decided to give away cookies at Mercy Main, Mercy Surgery Center and Mercy Orthopedic Hospital on Wade's Birthday, May 16th. This is to say "Thank You" for supporting his fund and getting it to an Endowment status. You rock!

Valentine's Day 2018

We wanted to promote staff enthusiasm and awareness for "jobs well done." So, we decided to sell candy grams with logos printed that individuals could purchase for $1 each. They could be given to staff, family or friends for encouragement or friendship. In turn, they would also benefit Wade's Memorial Fund. This turned out to be a wonderful experience for everyone involved. We sold these candy grams along with a combined bake sale at the Main Mercy hospital, the Surgery Center and the Orthopedic Hospital. They were all a huge success! it was even printed in the hospital newspaper, "Around Mercy."

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE BASKETS 2017

Mercy staff, friends and co-workers have been an amazing blessing to Cara and I. They continue to support us in remembering Wade and keeping his memory alive and his legacy thriving. It is such a gift to our spirits to recognize just how much he was loved by others. It is one thing to love your husband (and dad) as Cara and I do. But, to know that he was loved and missed so much by others gives us great comfort. It validates the amazing man that he was. Thank you!

Each hospital (and even a few departments he worked in) donated goods and gift cards and made baskets for raffles that were raffled off at Christmastime. Proceeds went to Wade's memorial fund. What a generous and amazing group of people!

MERCY COLORS OF HOPE GALA 2017

What an amazing gift and honor! Wade's Memorial was one of 5 beneficiaries for the 2017 Mercy Colors of Hope Gala in November. This was a lovely event that was attended by close to 500 people at the University Plaza. A great time was had by all and Wade's fund raised over $29,000! This money was added to his Memorial Fund and will help us reach our goal of making his memorial an endowment. Such an amazing gift by friends and the Springfield and Mercy community!

Thanksgiving Day

Today is Thanksgiving Day 2016. It is easy to let my heart go to a sad and dark place. Everyday really. But, I purposely choose gratitude. In spite of the heartache I feel each day at losing Wade, I also feel sincere thankfulness. For thirty years, I was blessed at sharing my life with a funny, smart, compassionate, motivated and loving man. He brought me such joy. He loved me unconditionally and accepted me for who I am. He was fun to be around and had a most infectious laugh.  He was a prankster but knew when to be serious. He was good and kind and loved by many people. Wade and I shared a beautiful and loving daughter, Cara.  She is a blessing beyond words and today she and I share in this day of gratitude. Thank you God, for peaceful days amongst the ones of despair and sorrow. Thank you for Wade's insightfulness to care for Cara and I in his absence. Thank you for our loving family and friends who have walked this grief walk with us and lent their support. We choose gratitude today. Loving Wade forever and always.
